CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
We invite abstracts for talks on any aspect of theoretical linguistics.
Talks will be 20 minutes long, with 10 minutes for discussion.
Deadline
for receipt of abstracts: September 1, 1999 5:00PM EDT.
Abstracts must not be longer than 500 words including examples,
and on one
side of a single page. An additional page may be included with
references
only. The following information should accompany the abstracts:
short
summaries of presentations (see below), titles; names and
affiliations of
all authors; subfield of linguistics; e-mail address for
correspondence.
We strongly encourage submission by e-mail.

Notification of acceptance will be sent via e-mail by September 7, 1999.
NLS 99 - Format For Submission
Abstracts may be no longer than 500 words including examples, and on one
side of a single page (letter size, 8.5" by 11"). Leave a 1 inch (2.5 cm)
margin on all sides. An additional page may be included with references
only. At the top of the abstract put the title (no more than 50
characters long). In addition, a short summary of the presentation (no
more than 150 words long), intended for publication in the conference
booklet, is required from all speakers. Deadline for receipt of
abstracts: September 1, 1999, 5:00PM EDT.
The following author information should be included in the abstracts:
short summary of presentation
title
names and affiliations of all authors (indicate primary author)
subfield of linguistics e-mail address for correspondence
We strongly encourage submission by e-mail. Please use the subject
header "Abstract," and include all the author information in the body of
the e-mail. Send the abstracts to:

Abstracts in formats other than plain text should be sent as an
attachment to your e-mail. PDF and PostScript files should have all fonts
embedded. For all other formats, please include any non-standard fonts
that you use (including all phonetic and mathematical fonts). If you send
your abstract in any format other than plain text, please allow for time
to solve any technical difficulties that may arise.
Acknowledgment of receipt and notification of acceptance will be via
e-mail. If you cannot use e-mail, please make note of this and provide us
with your postal address.

(Formerly: Verbatim Award)
Announcement:
Invitation to submit applications
Applications are invited for the Laurence Urdang Award
(formerly Verbatim-Award), administered by Euralex,
for the purpose of supporting unpaid lexicographical work
of any type, including study.
An individual award may vary in size from 250.- GBP to
1,500.- GBP.
The key dates are:
October 30, 1999 Receipt of applications
December 1999 Notification of results
January 2000 Presentation of Award(s)
Applications should take the form of:
1. A letter specifying the amount applied for;
2. A statement giving full details of the purpose
to which the funds would be put, and an indication of
expected tangible results (e.g. data, lexicon entries,
publications);
3. A curriculum vitae including qualifications,
details of previous lexicographical or related work,
and publications;
4. One professional or academic reference
(letter or details of a person to contact
for receiving a letter);
5. Details of funding received or applied for in relation
to the project for which the Laurence Urdang Award
is being sought.

Euralex is an international organization of world-wide
affiliation for promoting scholarly and professional
activities related to Lexicography, i.e. the science and art
of dictionary-making. Besides organizing its own Biennial
Congresses and periodic Workshops on themes and topics
central to its Members' interest, Euralex also acts
as a major clearing house for information on publications
and conferences relevant to lexicography, disseminating this
information through various channels, including the Euralex
Newsletter and WWW site. In addition, Euralex acts as an
academic sponsor of the quarterly International Journal of
Lexicography (IJL) and several research projects.
