  Research Position in Natural Language Processing

Highland Technologies, a leader in document imaging and management, is
seeking a researcher in natural language processing.

The Research and Development group at Highland does applied research
in text extraction, retrieval, classification, mining, OCR, and
related areas.  Our work will be expanding to include relational data
mining.  Highland has access to unique corpora and welcomes your
research ideas.

Candidates should have a degree in NLP, linguistics (any specialty),
computer science, mathematics, or statistics, and have experience with
NLP or text processing in a university, government, or private
industry.

Proficiency in C, C++ and/or Java is required.  Experience with Perl,
sed, awk, and similar tools is helpful.

Subject:  Lectureship in Communication and Linguistics


Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in
Communication/Linguistics, within the School of Language, Literature &
Performing Arts.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, and expertise in the areas
of interpersonal / intercultural communication, sociolinguistics, and
preferably one or more of the following: semantics, pragmatics,
discourse analysis, and composition.  Duties will include the teaching
of courses at all levels, including postgraduate supervision.  Proven
ability in lecturing to large undergraduate classes is essential.

The lecturer will have strong interdisciplinary interests and an
interest in contributing to further developments of the University's
new programme in Communication Studies.

The salary range for a Lecturer NZ$45,000-NZ$55,500 per annum.
Appointment will be at an appropriate step in this range depending on
qualifications and experience.
