Assistant Professor of Linguistics - tenure-track. To teach courses in
sociolinguistics and general linguistics in B.A. and M.A. programs. Ph.D.
in Linguistics by August 1, 2000; evidence of good teaching a must. Ability
to teach semantics, translation, gender studies, or history of English a

Department of the Languages and Cultures of Africa at the School of
Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Please note that
this post is different from the Swahili Lectorship that has been
announced in April and for which an appointment has been made.

Lectureship in Swahili
ADVERTISEMENT

Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Swahili in the
Department of the Languages and Cultures of Africa.

The Department has a preference for a specialist in Swahili language
and linguistics.  The appointed lecturer will be expected to
contribute to the teaching of language and related cultural studies
courses on both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to
undertake research and publication.  Candidates should have (or be
close to completing) a PhD, as well as having relevant teaching
experience.  The appointment will be effective from 1 January 2000 or
as soon as possible thereafter.

The Lecturer salary scale is stlg17,238 -- stlg30,065 plus stlg2,134 p.a.
London Allowance.
