International Symposium on Language Planning and Lexicology

The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Academy of Esperanto are
organizing a joint international symposium on Language Planning and
Lexicology, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, July 28--30, 2001. The working
languages are Croatian, Esperanto, English, and French.

The opening ceremony of the Symposium will take place in the afternoon of
Saturday, July 28, and the symposium will end in the afternoon of Monday,
July 30, 2001.

Venue

The Palace of the Croatian Academy, Zagreb.


Contributions

Contributions to the symposium are invited.  Prospective contributors
should send their papers in electronic form to Professor Geraldo
Mattos, <mattos at super.com.br>, before the end of November 2000.  In
exceptional cases, contributions not in electronic form may be
accepted, but only subject to prior agreement with Professor Mattos
and only if they reach him at Rua Dr. João Motter, 98, BR-81210-260
Curitiba PR, Brazil, before theþnd of October, 2000.  Accepted
contributions will be published in a volume that will be ready before
the Symposium.

Persons who wish to attend the symposium (even without giving a talk) are
kindly requested to inform Professor Christer Kiselman,
<kiselman\@math.uu.se>, before the end of May, 2001.

Subject:  "Computer Corpora and the Study of English" - Extension of Deadline


The deadline for abstracts for the session "Computer Corpora and the Study
of English," scheduled to be part of the Midwest Modern Language
Association meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, November 2-4, 2000, has been
extended till Saturday, April 15, 2000. Contributions should offer case
studies of how electronic corpora can shed light on the English language.
The session has the purpose of raising awareness of the possibilities of
corpus-based research in the US, and contributions drawing on American
English, on British English, or on both, are welcome. Send you abstract,
200 words maximum, by email to juhani11 at hotmail.com. Include your name,
