The Universidad de la Sierra, A.C. (USAC) is pleased to announce 3-4
English and/or French teaching internship position openings for the Fall
2000 (August-December) semester at our Huauchinango, Puebla campus.

The USAC Teaching Internship Program Established in 1997, this
continuous program is designed to give graduate students enrolled in
accredited TESOL programs and recent MA TESOL graduates an opportunity
to gain valuable international teaching experience. Interns may
arrange to earn graduate academic credit for their work with USAC.

Interns are integral members of the department's faculty and have the
opportunity to teach a variety of language classes, as well as, work
on curriculum, material and text development. The program has
excellent support services for interns which include a comprehensive
orientation, weekly round table discussions, teaching methodology
workshops, and class observation feedback sessions. On occasion, the
program has openings for interns who have bachelor's degrees coupled
with a strong interest in Mexican culture and language teaching.

The University

The Universidad de la Sierra, A.C. is an accredited nonprofit private
institution that offers undergraduate, graduate, certificate and
distance learning programs. At the undergraduate level, USAC offers
programs in law, accounting, administration, tourism, information
systems, computer science, engineering, and architecture. USAC offers
graduate programs in teaching, administration, finances and
law. USAC´s certificate programs include education, administration,
and taxes. The University has grown to include 3 campuses and has
plans for future expansion. At present, USAC has campuses in
Huauchinango, Puebla; Puebla, Puebla and Poza Rica, Veracruz.

Location

Huauchinango is a beautiful mountain community of approximately 80,000
inhabitants. It is located in the Sierra Norte of Puebla and is 100
miles northeast of Mexico City (3 hours via bus).

Intern Responsibilities

-Interns will teach approximately 15-20 contact teaching hours per week
-Staff the USAC Language Center which sponsors complimentary English and
French language workshops. On occasion, Nahuatl (a local indigenous
language) workshops are offered as well.
-Actively participate in faculty meetings, round table discussions,
teaching methodology workshops, and USAC-sponsored language activities
-Work on special projects as designed (curriculum, resource and text
 development)
-Teach short-term Saturday classes as needed in the distance learning

If interns are assigned to work on special projects, the overall contact
teaching hours will be reduced accordingly. Interns are allotted
preparation and grading time for each hour in the classroom. The
remaining hours of the 40 hour work week are devoted to projects.
