by guest scholars at the CNRS Research Unit "Civilisation Japonaise"
in the framework of an international research seminar starting 15
February 2000.

Bringing together distinguished specialists from all Europe and Japan,
the seminar seeks to be an incentive to encourage European and
Japanese scientific potential, the purpose being to lay new
foundations for developing methods of teaching and tools for using the
Japanese language. The major themes will focus on the Japanese
Language (its history and structure, electronic dictionaries, machine
translation technologies etc.) as well as linguistic and social
problems (verbal behaviour, networking and other aspects of the
computerisation of Japanese society).
