Colleagues,

any suggestions how phonetic/phoemic symbols can be rendered in HTML? I can
do Greek etc., but not IPA. Please respond to Manfred.Prokop at ualberta.ca.

Thanks!!!

I'm teaching a course in English grammar, and a problem construction has
come up that I'm not sure how to analyze. Are the following sentences
acceptable in your English? How would you account for them? Do you know of
any studies on the structure? Any help anyone can offer would be greatly
appreciated.

1. I would have rather of read it if it were written more like a story.

2. I might have rather have had yogurt.

3. I would have rather have gone.

4. We could have rather have analyzed another sentence.

5. The boys should have rather of played tennis.
