Researcher: GeM Project, University of Stirling, UK

GeM (Genre and Multimodality), an ESRC-funded project, is a
collaboration between the Universities of Bremen, Bradford, and
Stirling. The researcher will work with layout professionals and with
a corpus of sample layouts to synthesise expertise in paper and
electronic document design for incorporation into computer models for
generating layouts. You will need experience in thinking
algorithmically, as well as concrete experience with modern
programming tools and techniques. A background in Web design (e.g.
Java, HTML), experience in text and discourse analysis (e.g. RST) and
a knowledge of emerging standards in document layout languages will be
a considerable advantage.

The post is fixed-term for 16 months, and will be based at Stirling, to
begin as soon as possible. Salary will be within Grade 1A of the Research
