FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS
16th Comparative Germanic Syntax Workshop (CGSW 16)

May 5-6, 2001

McGill University, Montréal, Canada

We invite abstracts for thirty-five-minute talks (plus ten minutes
discussion) on any aspect of comparative Germanic syntax including
the interfaces between syntax and other components.

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACTS:
Abstracts should not exceed one page (letter-size; 8"1/2 by 11" or
A4), with one-inch margins and typed in at least 11-point font. A
second page is permitted for data and references only. Abstracts must
be anonymous. Submissions are limited to 1 individual and 1 joint
abstract per author.

We strongly encourage electronic submissions. Send name, affiliation,
e-mail, mailing address, and title of the paper in the body of the
message. The anonymous abstract should be sent as an attachment in
one of the following formats: pdf, rtf, postscript, Microsoft Word
(98 or earlier), or plain text. For any unusual fonts, please attach
the font file (Macintosh only).

Postal submissions must include 5 copies of an anonymous abstract and
an index card (3'' by 5'') including the author, title, and contact
information as above.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF ABSTRACTS:
	December 8, 2000

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE:
	February, 2001

                  INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
            ON DEICTIC SYSTEMS AND QUANTIFICATION
IN LANGUAGES SPOKEN IN EUROPE AND NORTH AND CENTRAL ASIA

The symposium will take place at the Udmurt State University, in
Izhevsk, Russia, on May 22-25, 2001. Izhevsk is the capital of the
Udmurt Republic in Russia. The location of the symposium has been chosen
particularly to provide an the opportunity for researchers who are
native speakers of languages spoken in Russia and in the East European
countries to participate in the symposium.

Electronic versions should be in plain text or in the HTML, LaTeX or
PS-format and should be sent to symposium-izhevsk at eva.mpg.de.
The paper copies should be sent to Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary
Anthropology International Symposium on Deictic Systems and
Quantification Department of Linguistics (Attn. Dr. Pirkko Suihkonen)

The abstracts to be submitted to the Program Committee should not exceed
two pages. The abstracts will be published for the symposium, and also a
network version of the abstracts will be available. Authors are
encouraged to write their papers so that most of the papers to be
presented in the symposium could be published later.
