Subject: A question from the National Geographic Society

Greetings from Washington, D.C.:

I am a researcher with the National Geographic Society who is trying to locate a
linguistic graph for an upcoming issue of our magazine.

Essentially, we would like to show how Finno-Ugric languages form a "renegade
branch" off the European linguistic tree. We have prepared a small box that
explains how Finnish is different from other European languages, but we have not
been able to locate a chart that helps illustrate this concept.

If you would be so kind, could you recommend a place where we could find such a
graph? If you have one in your office, you may also fax the information directly
to me -- Leigh Marjamaa -- at 202-429-5712. Or if you prefer to send it as an
e-mail attachment, the address is: lmarjama at ngs.org

Thank you so much for your assistance. We do appreciate your expertise.

Sincerely,
Leigh M. Marjamaa
