                http://www.cs.vassar.edu/XCES

We are pleased to announce the availability of a Beta release of XCES,
which instantiates the Corpus Encoding Standard (CES) DTDs for
linguistic corpora endorsed by the Expert Advisory Group for Language
Engineering Standards (EAGLES). XCES was developed by the Department
of Computer Science, Vassar College, and Equipe Langue et Dialogue,
LORIA/CNRS.

The current version includes a set of XSL stylesheets for cesDoc
documents. We are in the process of developing stylesheets for cesAna
and cesAlign documents.

We appreciate feedback on XCES. Please contact Nancy Ide
(ide at cs.vassar.edu) or Patrice Bonhomme (bonhomme at loria.fr).

European Masters in Clinical Linguistics

The overall aim of the project is a one-year university programme at
advanced level, entitled European Master in Clinical Linguistics
(EMCL for short), which integrates the areas of neurolinguistics and
language and speech therapy in a meaningful way, and which aims
at improving the quality of speech and language therapy itself and
the assessment and treatment material used by speech and
language therapists.
The main target fields involved are (a) speech and language therapy,
and (b) linguistics, psychology and special education and similar
degrees. The students following this programme will acquire the
knowledge to assess and treat language impaired people more
adequately, and to develop assessment and treatment materials
which fulfil the relevant quality criteria. An additional aim of the
programme is to raise language awareness among the students, so
that they are better equipped to working in a multilingual
environment. Therefore, the students are supposed to stay at least
one trimester at a university abroad.
The EMCL is an excellent preparation for a PhD in neurolinguistics.
The programme will start in September 2000 at the universities of
Groningen (The Netherlands), Tessaloniki (Greece) and Reading
(UK). All courses will be taught in English and is sponsored by the
EU, under Socrates.
Detailed information about the programme, aims, costs etc. is
