Subject:  Spanish language instruction - Rice University


Rice University seeks to hire several specialists in content-based Spanish
language instruction to teach language courses and to develop solid courses
in the following content areas: business/industrial, legal, and
science/engineering. Candidates should be familiar with ACTFL national
standards and be versed in proficiency-oriented teaching. Strong pluses:
experience in multi-media applications and technology-enhanced instruction,
Spanish for heritage learners, OPI certification. Applicants should have at
least near-native fluency, and M.A. degree or equivalent. For appointment
at rank of Lecturer, to begin July 1, 2000; salary commensurate with
credentials and experience; excellent institutional support for
professional development, state-of-the-art facilities. Please send
(postmarked by April 1, 2000) a letter of application, c.v., transcript,
three recent letters of recommendation, teaching portfolio (or sample

Subject:  Freelance linguists/native speakers


We are seeking professional linguists on a freelance basis who are
native speakers of the following languages: KOREAN, RUSSIAN, ARABIC,
HEBREW, PORTUGUESE (European), SCANDANAVIAN LANGUAGES, CHINESE
(Singapore), CANTONESE.  This is for projects for brand names,
taglines, and other marketing material a large translation company. We
prefer evaluators who are located in their native countries, but if
you're not, please contact us anyway. The projects entail completing a
questionnaire about proposed names etc, using your expertise about your
native language and culture. It is helpful if you like to think
creatively and are interested in all aspects of language. We pay on a
per job/hourly basis. If you are interested, please email me your

the quality of your work.
