2000-01 LINGUIST Fellowship

We are now soliciting applications for the LINGUIST fellowship at
Eastern Michigan University. This fellowship will support a student
editor of LINGUIST in 2000-01. Those of you who have contributed to
the LINGUIST Development Fund are funding this fellowship; and we'd
like to ask you to bring it to the attention of your students.

Graduate student editors of LINGUIST get more than just monetary
support: they also have the opportunity to "listen in" daily on
professional linguistic discussions, to interact informally with
working linguists across the world, and to become familiar with all
phases of the Internet, especially web site maintenance and design.

In an effort to maintain the international character of the list, we
welcome applications from students outside the USA. The LINGUIST
fellowship holder must have a good command of written English and be
degree-seeking student at Eastern Michigan University.

Eastern Michigan U. offers a B.A. and M.A. in general linguistics.
The M.A. curriculum offers a solid foundation for further study in
linguistics; about half of Eastern Michigan M.A. candidates go on to
Ph.D. programs in linguistics. EMU is situated in Ypsilanti, MI (about
5 miles from Ann Arbor) in a very active linguistics community. The
LINGUIST fellow at EMU receives a full tuition waiver (for 18 graduate
credit hours per year) plus a 9-month stipend of approximately
$6300. Application deadline: March 15, 2000.
