                       DIALOG'00

  International Workshop on linguistics and its applications
              Tarusa(Russia), June 1 - 5, 2000
            http://www.aha.ru/~artint/dialog.html

                  **** FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS ****

                         Dear Colleagues,

The DIALOG workshop series is an annual meeting place for a dialog:
a) between researchers from different fields that are related to
   computational linguistics (linguists, computer and cognitive
   scientists, psychologists, researchers in the artificial intelligence
   and speech processing);
b) between researchers from the former USSR and the international
   community.

This year we plan to make an additional accent at various kinds of
speech phenomena: voice understanding and synthesis, prosody, rhyme,
etc.

Other topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

*  theoretical and cognitive linguistics
* syntax, semantics, pragmatics and their interaction
*  multilingual natural language processing
* systems for natural language processing
* text, dialog and speech act in the computational framework
*  knowledge representation and processing

DIALOG'00 is the sixth international workshop reviving the tradition
of the interdisciplinary DIALOG seminars which were regular events in
the former USSR during 70s-80s. Previous workshops (starting from
1995) significantly increased the number of participants and scope of
research interests and became the major annual national event, which
attracts leading researchers from the former USSR as well as other
countries. We hope that DIALOG'00 will continue this tradition. Tarusa
is located 120 km sou from Moscow in a picturesque place on the bank
of Oka river.

The number of participants is expected about 100. Every prospective
attendee is required to submit a short research summary including
relevant recent publications, regular and e-mail address, fax and
phone numbers.

Participants who wish to present their work are additionally required to
submit a poster (1-3 double-spaced pages) or a full paper (not
exceeding 12 double-spaced pages) preferably via e-mail (in
plain ASCII or uuencoded Winword files) to the address of the Program
Committee.

Because of some additional organizing difficulties which postponed this
letter the Committee decided to add two weeks to the time-table of
formation of the Workshop's program:
  *** Deadline for submission:  February 1, 2000
  *** Notification of acceptance: February 29, 2000

Please send submissions in Russian or English, papers in Russian should
be accompanied with a short summary in English (approximately 100-200
words). We plan to organize selected English-to-Russian and
Russian-to-English translation of talks.

		       Workshops: 12 June 2000
		   Main conference: 13-16 June 2000

                             Call For Papers

The First International Natural Language Generation Conference (INLG'2000)
will be held June 13 to 16, 2000 in Mitzpe Ramon, Israel. This conference
continues in the tradition of the nine biennial workshops on natural
language generation that have been held from 1980 to 1998. INLG'2000 will
offer the opportunity to a larger audience to participate in the main
meeting of researchers in the field. For the general sessions, substantial,
original, and unpublished contributions to natural language generation are
solicited. A separate track will be offered for Student Papers. Submissions
for all tracks are due by 6 February 2000. The INLG'2000 program committee
invites papers describing original research on the following topics:

   * Generation and summarization
   * Multimodal and multimedia generation
   * Multilingual generation
   * Concept to speech, models of intonation
   * Strategic generation for text and dialogue
   * Text planning, discourse models, argumentation strategies, content
     selection and organization
   * Tactical generation, formalisms and models of grammar, sentence
     aggregation, lexical choice
   * Architecture of generators
   * Knowledge acquisition and resources for generation and summarization
   * User-customized generation and summarization
   * Psychological modelling of discourse production
   * Learning methods for generation
   * Evaluation methodologies for generation and summarization
   * Applications of: generation, concept-to-speech, information extraction,
     information retrieval techniques to summarization, report generation,
     explanation.

The conference will be organized in four tracks:

  1. Main session
  2. Student session
  3. Workshops
  4. Special session on evaluation in generation

We plan to hold all presentations in the plenary hall with no parallel
tracks. The special session on evaluation will be held the day before the
main session, on Monday 12 June 2000. A paper accepted for presentation at
INLG'2000 must not be or have been presented at any other meeting with
publicly available proceedings. Submission to other conferences should be
indicated on the paper. Submission to the main session should describe
completed work. Submission to the student session should describe work in
progress. Submission to the evaluation session should describe statements on
methodology, reports on actual evaluation work and proposals for evaluation
benchmarks.
