Function:

* You will manage and coordinate software development projects in the area of
language and speech processing technology and systems for Polish.
* You will coordinate the start-up of the Polish language development team,
including a.o. recruitment and logistics.
* You will supervise, coach and motivate a team of linguists and engineers
based both in Ieper and Poland.
* You will streamline the gathering of corpora and acoustic data, the
development of an L&H specific grammars and lexicons for Polish and the
translation of the linguistic data to software based on L&H technology.
* You will ensure that the quality and timing standards set out by L&H are
reached.
* You will actively participate in the technical aspects of the project.
* You will maintain good contacts with the different departments within L&H and
relevant Polish institutes, organizations, etc. .


Profile:

* relevant university degree preferably in computational linguistics;
* experience in management of development projects, preferably in the field of
natural language and/or speech processing;
* near-native or native speaker of Polish and a conversational level of
English;
* good knowledge of and experience in at least two of the following areas:
speech processing, phonetics, lexicography, computational linguistics, natural
language processing (NLP), programming, (e.g. C, C++, script languages,), other
 languages;
* ability to work in a team and independently;
* perseverance, accuracy and thoroughness;
* good social and communicative abilities;
* self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit;
* willingness to travel for limited periods of time.

Job Title:  Language Modeling Consultant

Job Decription:

The Spoken Language Technology group at Sony in San Jose, CA, is seeking
candidates to fill a full-time (40 hours/week) temporary (6 months)
position in Language Modeling for Speech Recognition.  Primary work
centers around various tasks needed to develop statistical language
models for a Hidden Markov Model based Continuous Speech Recognizer
developed by Sony.  You will work in Sony Electronics' main building in
San Jose, in an R&D environment with flexible working hours.

Skills:

- Experience in grammar formalisms for natural language modeling
- Experience in statistical language modeling techniques for continuous
speech recognition.
- Programming experience in C/C++, Perl, Tcl/Tk.
- Knowledge of text corpora, including corpus generation and
processing.
- Well-versed in UNIX (Solaris)
- Working knowledge of the CMU Language Modeling Toolkit or similar is a
strong plus.
- Prefer exposure to real-time search techniques for HMM-based
recognizers.
- Prefer Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computational Linguistics and/
or Computer Science with emphasis in Language Technology.
