Queen's University invites applications for an eight-month, renewable
position as a term adjunct instructor of Japanese commencing September
1, 2000.  The successful applicant will be expected to teach three
full courses in Japanese language acquisition: two sections at the
beginner's and one at the advanced level.  Candidates should have
experience teaching Japanese and hold a master's degree in related
fields.  Salary $27,000.  In accordance with Canadian immigration
requirements, this advertisement is directed to Canadian citizens and

The Divisions of Computational Linguistics and Experimental Phonetics
of the Institute of Natural Language Processing (IMS) at the
University of Stuttgart, Germany, are seeking applications for a
postdoctoral (or predoctoral) position to work on the interface
between symbolic processing and signal processing in the framework of
speech synthesis.

This position is part of the project "DeKo: Derivational and
Compositional Morphology," coordinated by Prof. Christian Rohrer and
Prof. Grzegorz Dogil. The project also involves close interaction with
the Institute for Network and Systems Theory. Duration of the project
will be until the end of March 2001, with a possibility of follow-on
funding. The position is in the BATIIa salary rank (approx. DM
70000-80000 p.a., depending on age and marital status). Starting date
of the position is as soon as possible.

Desired qualifications:
- M.S., "Diplom", or Ph.D. in a computation-oriented speech processing
  area (e.g., speech synthesis, coding, or recognition).
- Experience with corpus-based approaches in speech technology would
  be an asset.
- Basic knowledge of morphology and phonology.
- Programming skills in C/C++, Perl, Tcl/Tk.
- Native or near-native proficiency in German required.
