ARCLING II
Interdisciplinary conference on the prehistory of Australia

September 22-25 2001
National Museum of Australia, Acton Peninsula, Canberra

Next year the second ARCLING conference will be held in Canberra in the new
National Museum building, jointly supported by the Australian Institute of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, the Australian National
University and the NMA. Australian and international archaeologists ,
linguists and others will address issues of mutual concern in the
prehistory of Australia and its near neighbours.

Among sessions proposed so far are:

Models and methods in linguistic prehistory
Cultural landscapes: the prehistory of story and place
The contribution of genetics to the prehistory of Australia
Artifacts, terminology and technology: an archaeo-linguistic meeting point
The dry interior: Australian deserts and their peripheral zones
The wet exterior: the Torres Strait, and Arafura and Coral sea connections

Further details of the conference, a call for papers, and a web-site will
be announced in August 2000.
