We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

I am looking for information concerning dictionary
writing software. I have heard about Shoebox and I
don't know how good it is. If anybody knows any
software for writing dictionaries please contact me
with details of how I might be able to get it.

Thank you very much.

Yours

Dear linguist-contributors

I would be grateful if you could recommend updated (post-Kortman 1991)
references on FREE ADJUNCTS ("Inflating her lungs, Mary screamed"),
ABSOLUTES ("The coach being crowded, Fred had to stand") and DEPICTIVES
("John ate the meat raw") in English -- a summary will be posted during
the summer. I am particularly interested in the syntactic analysis
(syntactic relations, subcategorisation issues, etc) of these
structures. Thanks a lot in advance,
