Subject: Contextual vocabulary acquisition bibliography

As part of a research project on (computational) theories of contextual
vocabulary acquisition, I am developing a bibliography on the subject.

It can be viewed at:

	http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~rapaport/refs.vocab.html

It will be continually updated, so if you know of items that are not on
my list, please send me full bibliographic info, and I will add them.

Thanks.

Subject: Requesting feedback for "Linguistic Enterprises"

As you may already know, since 1997, the LSA has made available a web site
named "Linguistic Enterprises",
http://web.gc.cuny.edu/dept/lingu/enter/index.htm, aimed at helping
academically trained linguists find work in the private sector. The site has
so far been quite successful, in that it has generated a great deal of
interest both in corporations worldwide (who regularly post job openings),
and in individuals who have seen it as a great opportunity to market their
skills by posting their resumes for the world to see.

As the current manager of this site, I would like to invite feedback and
suggestions from all linguists, with regard to the following areas:
- if you are currently employed as a linguist in a non-academic setting,
please let us know. This will help us get a better sense of how well this
kind of employment is working out. You might also want to take a few moments
to contribute some details about your personal experience, which is always
helpful (and possibly encouraging!) to others out there looking for work.
- We would also like to know if there are other ways in which the LE site
can serve your needs: in other words, what other services can we offer? Are
there specific features you would like to see on the site? Your ideas are
valuable to all.

Wishing you all a good summer,
