Subject:  Cognitive systems research journal book review

The journal of COGNITIVE SYSTEMS RESEARCH invites recent and new books
to be sent for review. Also we are interested to hear from researchers
who are interested to write a review which will get published as a
brief article in the journal cognitive systems research. Also, if you
have recently read a new interesting, challenging, controversial book
in the scope of the journal please let us know at the address below.
We are particularly interested in new books and new review article
writers.

The journal of Cognitive Systems Research covers all topics in the
study of cognitive processes, in both natural and artificial systems.

The journal emphasizes the integration/synthesis of ideas, concepts,
constructs, theories, and techniques from multiple paradigms,
perspectives, and disciplines, in the analysis, understanding, and
design of cognitive and intelligent systems.  Contributions describing
results obtained within the traditional disciplines (e.g., psychology,
artificial intelligence) using well-established paradigms are also
sought if such work has broader implications and relevance.

The journal seeks to foster and promote the discussion of novel
approaches in studying cognitive and intelligent systems. It also
encourages cross fertilization of disciplines. This is to be achieved
by soliciting and publishing high-quality contributions in all of the
areas of study in cognitive science, including artificial intelligence,
linguistics, psychology, psychiatry, philosophy, system and control
theory, anthropology, sociology, biological sciences, and
neuroscience.

ABOUT ICoS

Traditional inference tools (such as theorem provers and model
builders) are reaching new levels of sophistication and are now widely
and easily available. A wide variety of new tools (statistical and
probabilistic methods, ideas from the machine learning community) are
likely to be increasingly applied in computational semantics. Most
importantly of all, computational semantics seems to have reached the
stage where the exploration and development of inference is one of its
most pressing tasks - and there's a lot of interesting new work which
takes inferential issues seriously.

The Workshop on Inference in Computational Semantics (ICoS) intends to
bring researchers from areas such as Computational Linguistics,
Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science,and Logics together, in
order to discuss approaches and applications of Inference in natural
language semantics.

People who would like demonstrate systems that address inference in
computational semantics should consider the following dates:

      Submission Deadline for System Demos: June 12, 2000.
      Notification: June 19, 2000.
      ICoS-2: July 29-30, 2000.
      (COLING: July 31 - August 4, 2000)

LOCATION

ICoS-2 will be held the International Conference And Research Center
for Computer Science SCHLOSS DAGSTUHL. Schloss Dagstuhl is situated in
the Saarland (Germany), allowing participants to reach the COLING
conference in Saarbruecken conveniently. Transport from Dagstuhl to
Saarbruecken will be organized on sunday evening or monday morning.
Invited speakers are James Allen (University of Rochester) Christof
Monz (University of Amsterdam) and Bonnie Webber (University of
Edinburgh). Dagstuhl offers rich computing facilities.

SUBMISSIONS

A two-page abstract containing a description of the system
and the demonstration.

Submission Deadline: June 12, 2000.

Submissions can be sent to icos2 at ags.uni-sb.de.  Please use plain
text, latex, dvi, postscript, or pdf format.
