POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing technical support to linguists and
lexicographers who are customers of L&H and who require assistance
utilizing our linguistic development tools. This position works closely
with the linguistics staff in San Diego as well as with the linguistic
support people in Europe.  As a team member, you will learn to
proficiently use all linguistic tools in order to answer linguistic
questions through email or on the phone.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

As a Linguistic Support Specialist you will:

* Be responsible for assisting lexicographers and linguists
  outside of the San Diego office (phone calls and e-mails) with inquiries
  or problems concerning :

1. The development of L&H machine translation electronic bilingual
   dictionaries
2. The development of L&H machine translation rule writing
3. Various aspects of the lexicography database (Access)
4. Translation issues of the various language pairs developed in San Diego

* Research problems that cannot be resolved on the first call by
  consulting with linguists.

* Gather and report feedback and problems.

* Formulate suggestions for improving training methods and
  supporting tools.

* Document the inquiries received and the solutions given.

* Update the lexicography and rule writing documentation based on
  the inquiries received.

* Train lexicographers and linguists outside of San Diego in
  lexicography and rule writing.


REQUIRED SKILLS:

Advanced degree in linguistics
Multi lingual speaker with native French and near native German and
English or native French with near native Spanish and English.
Good working knowledge of Windows 95/98/or NT.
Good working knowledge of MS Office.
Experience utilizing structured problem-solving skills
Strong phone and communication skills.
Ability to work in a team and independently.
Ability to manage and document inquiries.
Knowledge of Perl/Awk scripting languages a plus.
Knowledge of machine translation a plus.

Some travel involved.
