For Query: Linguist 10.1896

In December I sent out the following query:

"An excellent student of ours is interested in pursuing graduate
studies in linguistics, and is especially interested in the topic of linguistic
and cultural reconstruction. (Her undergraduate subjects are anthropology and
linguistics.) Are there still graduate programs in linguistics which have
a historical/comparative focus, at least as an option? A related question
would be: in some institutions is there a relatively close relationship
between linguists and anthropologists?"

Subscribers to the Linguist List might be interested in the summary of
answers received.

Below is a list of institutions mentioned (largely in the United States and
Canada) which place an emphasis on historical or comparative linguistics
and/or where cooperation with anthropologists was remarked on. (Several of
these institutions were mentioned by more than one replier.)

University of Arizona (Tucson)
Australian National University at Canberra
