************
The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is pleased to announce the
second year of our programs to improve career opportunities beyond the
academy for humanities doctoral students. Along with our efforts to maximize
good positions within the academy, these programs are part of a larger goal
of the Foundation to unleash the full potential of the humanities throughout
our society. Please spread the word about the programs to humanities
departments and graduate students.

I should like to draw attention to three distinct programs within our
Humanities at Work initiative:

The Woodrow Wilson Practicum Grants award $1,500 to students who find a
meaningful internship or other way to utilize their academic discipline in a
context outside of college teaching and research. Applications are processed
on a first-come-first-served basis.

The Woodrow Wilson Innovation Awards will provide up to three $10,000 and
up to three $5,000 grants to recognize and support departments and programs
in the humanities that encourage Ph.D. students to interact with the world
outside the academy as part of their graduate training. Proposals must be
postmarked no later than May 15, 2000.

The Woodrow Wilson Postdoctoral Careers continues to place recent
graduates in positions in a wide range of companies and organizations.
employers are currently actively recruiting through the Foundation's
web site and more employers are joining the program all the time.

Further details and applications for all these programs can be found
on our web site: http://www.woodrow.org/phd . Thank you for your continued
support.
