The Holland Institute of Generative Linguistics (HIL) is
offering two PhD student positions, starting 1 September 2000,
for the part of HIL that is based at Leiden University.

To apply, candidates must have an undergraduate degree
(preferably a Master's degree or equivalent) in linguistics, a
language, philosophy, or a social or physical science.
Candidates who have not yet completed their undergraduate
studies should enclose a statement from their supervisor that
they will be officially finished by the time the positions
start (1 September, 2000).

- a letter of application
- a curriculum vitae
- a detailed list of previous courses that have been taken in
linguistics, with instructors, grades
- previous papers, MA/BA theses, diplomas in linguistics
- a short (max. 3-page) outline of the research that will
lead to the dissertation (research question, relevance, methods,
a rough time schedule).

PhD positions take the form of one-year contracts, renewable so
that a maximum term of four years results. Salary starts at nlg
2374,= gross in the first year, and ends at nlg 4037 gross in
the fourth year. Part-time positions are possible.
