Research Assistentships in Basel and Lugano

The research project "Word Formation as a Structuring Device of the English
and Italian Lexicons: A Large-Scale Exploration" is funded by the Swiss
National Science Foundation (SNSF). It is a two-year project starting on
July 1st 2000, carried out jointly by the Universitet Basel and the
University della Svizzera Italiana (Lugano). The overall coordinator of the
project is Dr. Pius ten Hacken.

For the English lexicon branch we are looking for two postgraduate research
assistants with a degree in English or general linguistics, native or
near-native fluency in English, and computer literacy. A working knowledge
of German and/or Italian would be an advantage, as well as familiarity with
computational linguistics. Working place: Basel. Starting date: July 1st,
2000.

For the Italian lexicon branch we are looking for two postgraduate research
assistants with a degree in Italian or general linguistics, native or
near-native fluency in Italian, a working knowledge of English, and
computer literacy. A working knowledge of German would be an advantage, as
well as familiarity with computational linguistics. Working place: Lugano.
Starting date: July 1st, 2000.

All positions are full-time, with salary in accordance with the SNSF-scale
for doctoral students, 27900 - 33900 SFr. (gross). Successful applicants
will be given the opportunity to use part of their time for their own
research leading to a Ph.D. The universities aim to increase the proportion
of women in academic positions and would therefore welcome applications
from suitibly qualified women.
