UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA, Missoula, MT 59812-6192.  The Department of
Foreign Languages and Literatures invites applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Japanese language, applied
linguistics and pedagogy, beginning Fall, 2000.  Course load of 5-6
courses per year will include undergraduate Japanese language courses,
Business Japanese, and other courses in the area of linguistics and
pedagogy.  Candidate may be asked to teach Japanese culture, should be
prepared to assist with departmental internships in Japan, and must be
willing to organize and lead a Japanese study-abroad program.

Evidence of prior successful Japanese language teaching experience at
the university level is required, as is expertise in Japanese pedagogy
and curriculum development.  Near-native or native fluency in English
and Japanese is required.  Knowledge of computer assisted instruction
in Japanese is helpful.  Ph.D. with speciality in Japanese
language/linguistics is required and must be totally completed at the
time of application.  Indication of promising research agenda essential.
