The Research Division at Educational Testing Service is seeking Research
Scientists in the area of Language Assessment for Non-Native Speakers of
English.  ETS's TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
program is the premier English-as-a-second-language assessment in the
world, used by undergraduate and graduate institutions worldwide.  It is
a program that is also rapidly evolving, as we move towards assessments
that are diagnostic and that support the learning of English.

We are seeking several outstanding individuals to take part in a
comprehensive program of research that will strengthen these programs.
Research projects will include the development of new kinds of measures
and validation studies of assessments and instructional systems.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in linguistics or an allied field, with
an emphasis on language proficiency assessment.  Applicants should have
a documented interest in research in the measurement of language
proficiency, with a strong record of research and publications,
excellent writing and oral skills, and a demonstrated expertise in
either quantitative or qualitative research methods.

ETS is located near Princeton, NJ, and offers a competitive salary,
