CROATIAN ACADEMY OF          and          ACADEMY OF
SCIENCES AND ARTS                         ESPERANTO

International Symposium on Language Planning and Lexicology

Under the auspices and sponsorship of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and
Arts, the Academy of Esperanto will organize an  International Symposium on
Language Planning and Lexicology, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, July
28--30, 2001. The working languages are Croatian, Esperanto, English, and
French.

The opening ceremony of the Symposium will take place in the afternoon of
Saturday, July 28, and the symposium will end in the afternoon of Monday,
July 30, 2001.

Venue

The Illyrian Hall of the Croatian Academy od Sciences and Arts, Opaticka
18, HR-10 000 Zagreb, Croatia.


Contributions

Contributions to the symposium are invited.  Prospective contributors
should send their papers in electronic form to Professor Geraldo Mattos,
<mattos at super.com.br>, before the end of November 2000.  In exceptional
cases, contributions not in electronic form may be accepted, but only
subject to prior agreement with Professor Mattos and only if they reach him
at Rua Dr. João Motter, 98, BR-81210-260 Curitiba PR, Brazil, before the
end of October, 2000.  Accepted contributions will be published in a volume
that will be ready before the Symposium.

Persons who wish to attend the symposium (even without giving a talk) are
kindly requested to inform Professor Christer Kiselman,
<kiselman at math.uu.se>, before the end of May, 2001.

Second announcement: CALL FOR PAPERS

* The 8th NILO-SAHARAN LINGUISTICS COLLOQUIUM *
will be held at Hamburg University, August 22-25, 2001

Scholars are invited to present papers covering both traditional
topics of Nilo-Saharan linguistics as well as those related to text
analysis and to literature in Nilo-Saharan languages (20 min. + 10
min. discussion).

There are limited funds for scholars from African and from
Eastern European universities wanting to actively attend the
conference. Please contact the organizer early.

Deadline for submission of paper + preliminary abstract:
March 31, 2001.
Participants will be notified about acceptance of paper by
April 15, 2001.
Deadline for final abstract (max. 500 words):
June 30, 2001.
