The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Research Opportunities in Computational Linguistics
======================================

The Information Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has up to two
positions available for researchers in Computational Linguistics and
Language Engineering. We are seeking bright and innovative researchers
to join our dynamic, internationally recognised team of computational
linguists working on a range of topics, including but not limited to:
    natural language generation
    lexicons
    text corpus analysis
    multimodal interfaces
    diagrammatic reasoning
    text mining

The ITRI is comprised of around 20 staff and students: research
professors, readers, research fellows, research officers, doctoral
students and technical and administrative staff. We are housed in a
self-contained office suite with excellent computing and network
facilities and full administrative support. As a dedicated research
department, we place great emphasis on career management and
development, and participation in the wider research community.

These posts fall within the range from Research Officer to Postdoctoral
Research Fellow, with an available salary of up to <pounds>24,824pa.
The posts are, in the first instance, fixed term for 3 years.

The deadline for applications is 20th October 2000.

If you are interested in working with us, we would be interested in
hearing from you. Please address all enquiries, enclosing a CV, to
