The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale
University announces a search for an assistant professor of Japanese.

Applicants with a PhD in any field of specialization in Japanese
language, literature or cultural studies are invited to apply.
Preference will be given to candidates whose fields of teaching and
research complement rather than duplicate those of the current
faculty. The initial appointment will be for a four-year term
beginning July 1, 2001 and is renewable upon review.

Send letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three letters of
recommendation to Edward Kamens, Department Chair, Box 208236, New
Haven, CT 06520-8236 by November 1, 2000. Yale University is an equal
opportunity, affirmative action employer.
