RESEARCH AND TEACHING POSITIONS IN SPEECH AND DIALOGUE PROCESSING

Five positions are open at the speech and multimedia communication
(SMC) group at the Center for PersonKommunikation (CPK), Aalborg
University, Denmark.

SMC conducts research and teaching focussed on multimedia
Human-computer interaction processing with emphasis on speech
recognition, speech synthesis, and spoken dialogue systems in
real-world applications.

The SMC group is presently looking to fill research/teaching
positions in the following areas. All positions are 2-3 years
duration, with annual renewal of the university employment contract.

1 (two positions, open immediately):
Work within the speech recognition group on algorithms for acoustic
modelling and noise-tolerant ASR, with an eye to improving performance
in rejection out-of-vocabulary input. We are currently involved in
collaborative work in these areas.

2 (two positions, open immediately): Spoken and multi-modal dialogue
Systems.
The first position focuses on design, integration and evaluation of
spoken-dialogue applications in the (wireless) telephone network. Part
of the work is carried out in an EU project in close collaboration
with industry.
The second opening is a two-year assistant lecturer position,
focussing on teaching and research activities in multi-modal
human-computer interaction, especially involving spoken
communication. The teaching load will cover approximately two-third of
the time. Teaching will be combination of student project supervision
and courses within the Masters programme in Intelligent Multimedia at
CPK (taught in English).

3 (one position, open immediately):
A position is open in CPK's work on speech synthesis, which is aimed
at research and development for the next generation of speech
synthesisers. CPK is especially interested in trainable text-to-speech
synthesisers, e.g. systems that can be trained on large textual and
acoustic corpora with minimal manual intervention.


Qualifications:

- Masters or PhD with excellent results from universities or technical
universities in the broad disciplines described in the job profiles;

- 2-3 years of relevant research experience (Applicants having a
relevant Masters background in one of the SMC research areas will be
offered the possibility of enrollment in a PhD program). Experience
should be in at least some of the following areas:
Statistical Pattern Recognition, Dialogue Processing, Dialogue
Modelling, Natural Language Processing, Speech Processing, Signal
Processing or related areas

- Excellent programming skills, in particular C/C++, Java under UNIX
and/or Windows

Additionally, it is considered essential that the applicants can
contribute to the social working atmosphere at CPK by her/his
willingness to:
- Co-operate, work independently and creatively
- Work in an interdisciplinary scientific environment
- Communicate your results internally and externally

The salary level varies with experience, but for a newly graduated PhD
starts at approximately 37,900 Euro gross per year. The annual salary
for a senior lecturer is approx. 45,400 Euro.

A non-Danish senior applicant, who can evidence her/his research by
sufficient qualifications as judged by the evaluation committee may
obtain a 25% tax reduction for a maximum of a seven years' working
period in Denmark. The university will handle an application for this
at the time of application evaluation.
