Friends and Colleagues,

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Arizona is proud to
announce the grand opening of two new resources for theoretical syntacticians.

	1) The Minimalist Syntax Homepage
	2) The Arizona Minimalist Syntax Archives (AMSA)

Both of these can be accessed through the following URL:

	http://www.minimalism.linguistics.arizona.edu

AMSA, inspired by the Rutgers OT archive, is a place for researchers
in Chomskyan syntax (broadly construed to include interface issues,
such as Syntax/Semantics, Syntax/Morphology, Syntax/Psycholinguistics etc.)
to store their unpublished papers for distribution to the greater
linguistics community. In addition the Arizona Minimalist Syntax Archives
contains links (sorry no downloads) and citations to many published works
in Minimalism.

You are cordially invited to submit your work for inclusion on the archive.
Instructions can be found on the archive homepage.

The Minimalist Syntax Homepage will (soon) contain links to researchers and
Universities working in Minimalism, as well as basic foundational information
on the theory. Again, researchers are cordially invited to contribute
to the construction of this page.

We hope these pages will be of use to you!

Best,

Andrew Carnie

Machine Translation expert joins the MIT2 advisory board

October 17, 2000
Boston, Massachusetts USA

Mason Integrated Technologies Ltd (MIT2), a software developer and language
processing solutions service provider for Creole languages, is pleased to
announce that Dr. Winfield Scott Bennett has recently joined its Board of
External Advisors.

Dr. Bennett has been actively involved in the machine translation (MT)
community for over twenty years. From 1994 until very recently, he was at
Logos Corporation which was one of the first companies to place a commercial
MT production system on the market back in the early 1970s and which has
provided MT solutions for the past thirty years. He held several director
positions at Logos for various key components of the corporation. He has
recently been appointed as the Director of Business Development at OnePage,
Inc.

MIT2 President Marilyn Mason states: "Scott is another prime example of the
quality of advisors who want to collaborate in MIT2's vision of providing
language technologies for less-prevalent languages. His counsel will be
significant for developing and implementing MIT2's CreoleTranslate(tm) MT
solution."
