SOCIOLINGUISTICS

The Department of Linguistics at the University of
Toronto invites applications for a tenure-track position in
sociolinguistics at the assistant professor level to begin July 1, 2001.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., preferably with a strong background in
areas such as: language variation (including languages in contact),
language change, and quantitative methods. We also prefer candidates who
also have a good knowledge of phonetics and current linguistic theory.
Candidates should have a strong publication and research record;
evidence of effective undergraduate teaching is an asset. Applicants
should possess a strong commitment to undergraduate as well as graduate
education.

Candidates should send a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, samples
of not more than two pieces of scholarship, and copies of teaching
evaluations, if available. Candidates should also arrange for three
letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the address below. The
names and addresses (including e-mail) of the three references should be
included in the letter of application.
