Position available in the Department of Applied Linguistics,
Portland State University

Position Description:

The Department of Applied Linguistics at Portland State University
invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the
Assistant/Associate Professor level.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in
Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or Language Education, with a
specialization in second language acquisition and language pedagogy.
Secondary specializations drawn from the following are desirable:
language testing, program design and evaluation, classroom-based
research, instructional technology.  Responsibilities include
supervision of thesis research, both quantitative and qualitative.  We
encourage applications from a diverse community of international
scholars conducting research inside and outside the United States.
Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain funded research activities
is important.

Application Information:

The position will be available beginning Fall 2001.  Candidates should
submit a letter of application including statement of research and
teaching interests, curriculum vitae, representative publications, and
names and addresses (including fax and e-mail) of at least three
references.  Applications should be received by March 1.  Applicants who
do not already hold a Ph.D. degree must offer evidence that the degree
will be granted by August 2001.

Information about the Department of Applied Linguistics:

The Department of Applied Linguistics offers an undergraduate minor, a
BA in Applied Linguistics, a Certificate in TESL, and a MA:TESOL
degree.  The program is growing, especially at the graduate level, and
is in the process of establishing a laboratory school for ESL adults.
Portland State University is one of seven universities in the Oregon
State System of Higher Education, and is located in the center of the
Portland metropolitan area.  The university has more than 15,000
students enrolled in programs from the undergraduate to the doctoral
