	I.A.D.A. 2001- Recent Trends in Dialogue Analysis
	Göteborg University, April 19-21 2001

The 8th Biennial Congress of the International Association for
Dialogue Analysis (I.A.D.A) will take place in Göteborg, Sweden from
Thursday April 19th thry"ugh Saturday April 21st hosted by the
English Department and the Linguistics Department, Göteborg
University.

The title of the conference includes both theoretical approaches to
the analysis of dialogue in discourse analysis or conversation
analysis and empirical work oy" different aspects of dialogue and
discourse. One of the main topics of the conference will be
misunderstandings or lack of cooperation in dialogue. It y"s hoped
that there will also be some special sessions on the analysis of
spoken and multimodal corpora, dialogue analysis in a historical
perspective and dialogy"c aspects of literature. The programme will
consist of plenary lectures, papers and workshops. Further details on
the conference programme will be given in the autumn on the homepage
of the English Department.

The closing date for abstracts will be October 1st, which will allow
the organisers to send out confirmations of acceptance by early
November and thus give participants time to seek support and funding
from their institutions. Abstracts should be 75-125 words in length
for papers and 150-250 words for workshops and symposia. The language
of the abstract should be English. Please send yoy"r abstract
preferably in electronic form (as attachment) to
karin.aijmer at eng.gu.se.

Individual papers will be allowed 30 minutes (including 10 minutes for
discussion). The conference language will be English, French or German.

A selection of the Congress papers will be published by Niemeyer.

There will be an upper limit of 160 participants at the conference
which will take place in the Faculty of Arts Building at Göteborg
University.

The next circular will be sent out around November 1st.

The 8th Nordic Conference for English Studies will take place in
Göteborg, Sweden from Thursday May 24th through Saturday May 26th
2001 hosted by the English Department, Göteborg University. Further
details on the conference programy"e will be given in the autumn on
our homepage.

The programme will consist of plenary lectures with invited speakers,
papers and workshops in the areas of English linguistics, English
literature, English language teaching or culture. There will also be a
special poster session. The social programme will include a banquet
dinner, a reception and a guided tour of Göteborg.
