Linguistics.  The Department of Writing and Linguistics at Georgia
Southern University ( http://www2.gasou.edu/writling ) seeks
applications for two tenure-track assistant professors in linguistics.
Ph.D. in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics required by starting date
of the position, Aug. 1, 2001.

Preference may be given to candidates with a minimum of two years of
college teaching experience and experience working with a diverse
student population.  Salary dependent upon qualifications.

We seek candidates who have broad interests that complement a
department responsible for programs in creative writing, first-year
composition, technical and professional writing, teacher education,
and ESL.  Successful candidates will also have expertise in such areas
as language acquisition, syntactic theory, applied linguistics,
applied phonology, non-Indo-European languages, Language and Society,
sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, modern grammar, and the history
of the English language.

Applicants should value inter-departmental cooperation and be willing
to work with such departments as Communication Arts, Foreign Languages,
Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology, and the Center for Africana
Studies.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate
courses in the Department of Writing and Linguistics, possibly
including freshman composition.

Association Conference in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 27-30, 2000.
