We invite papers related to the conference theme, including but not
limited to such topics as family discourse, public discourse, narrative,
political discourse, and language policy and planning.

Individual papers will be 15 minutes long.  To propose an individual
paper, send four copies of a one-page abstract.  In the upper left-hand
corner of one copy, place the submitter's name, address, telephone,
e-mail address, and institutional affiliation.  In the upper right-hand
corner, write the topic area of the paper. The other three copies should
contain no identifying information.

ALL PROPOSALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2000. Send papers

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
ON DEICTIC SYSTEMS AND QUANTIFICATION
IN LANGUAGES SPOKEN IN EUROPE AND NORTH AND CENTRAL ASIA
Second Announcement

The symposium will take place at the Udmurt State University, in
Izhevsk, Russia, on May 22-25, 2001.  Izhevsk is the capital of the
Udmurt Republic in Russia. The location of the symposium has been
chosen particularly to provide an the opportunity for researchers who
are native speakers of languages spoken in Russia and in the East
European countries to participate in the symposium.

Important dates:
     Extended deadline for submitting the abstracts: November 30, 2000 (Original deadline: October 31,
2000)
     Notification of acceptance: January 15, 2001
     Time of the symposium: May 22-25, 2001

The abstract can be submitted in electronic form or as a paper
copy. Electronic versions should be in plain text or in the HTML,
LaTeX or PS-format and should be sent to symposium-izhevsk at eva.mpg.de.
The paper copies should be sent to Max Planck Institute for
Evolutionary Anthropology International Symposium on Deictic Systems
and Quantification Department of Linguistics (Attn. Dr. Pirkko
Suihkonen) Inselstrasse 22, D-04103 Leipzig, Germany.

The abstracts to be submitted to the Program Committee should not
exceed two pages. The abstracts will be published for the symposium,
and also a network version of the abstracts will be available. Authors
are encouraged to write their papers so that most of the papers to be
presented in the symposium could be published later.
