                     The 2nd Annual Conference of JAIS
                                   and
                            Call for Proposals

The 2nd Annual Conference of the Japan Association for Interpretation
Studies (JAIS) will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2001, on Itabashi
Campus of Daito-Bunka University, Tokyo, Japan. Proposals for oral
presentation are now accepted via email as follows:

[Deadline for submission] June 30, 2001
[Length of proposal (ABSTRACT)] Approximately 100-200 words (or about
   400-600 Kana-Kanji characters if written in Japanese), clearly
   stating the nature of the problem that you are addressing.
[Author's information] Attach a separate information page/sheet to your
   proposal, indicating (a) title of your presentation, (b) your full
   name, (c) affiliation, (d) email address, and (e) telephone number.
[Presentation time] 45 minutes, plus 15 minutes for discussion.
[Notification of acceptance] Official notification of acceptance of
   proposals will be sent to successful applicants via email by the
   end of July 2001.

Please also note the following:
* Presenters must be the members of, or have applied to the membership
  with, JAIS as of the date of proposal submission.
* The Conference is conducted in Japanese, but presentation in English
  is also accepted.
* If you wish to use other languages, please contact the Program
  Committee before submitting your proposal.
* If you wish to use special presentation equipment including OHP and
  RGB Projector, state it clearly in your proposal.

The next issue of Interpretation Studies, the official journal
of the Japan Association for Interpretation Studies (JAIS), is
scheduled to be published in December 2001. We welcome your
submission of papers on any topics relating to theoretical,
practical, or pedagogic aspects of interpreting.

Papers should be either in English or Japanese, should not
exceed 20 pages, or approx. 7,000 words (or 38 CPL x 700 lines,
if written in Japanese), including abstract and bibliography.
Each paper will be reviewed by at least two anonymous reviewers,
and the result will be notified to respective authors via email
in September.

Deadline for submission: August 1, 2001
