Subject:  Society for Text and Discourse (ST&D) in Santa Barbara

Dear member,

We would like to announce the availability of the program for the Eleventh
Annual Meeting of the Society for Text and Discourse at
http://www.psyc.memphis.edu/ST&D/2001/STD2001program.html . It will be held
in conjunction with the Linguistics Summer Institute on the campus of the
University of California Santa Barbara.

We have a diverse and world-class set of invited speakers. Brian MacWhinney,
David Barton, and Charles Li. New this year are two panel discussions. One
is a "futures" panel and the three panelists, David Bloome, Wallace Chafe,
and Morton Gernsbacher, will provide perspectives on what lies ahead for
discourse studies. The topic of the second is the recently completed Rand
Reading Study Group Report. Discussants are Anne Sweet, Art Graesser, and
Michael Kamil, all of whom were on the committee that drafted the report.
For additional information and for the complete list of papers and posters

For details on registration, accommodations, travel arrangements, and
membership in the Society, please refer to the Call for Proposals
http://www.psyc.memphis.edu/ST&D/call.html . The meeting begins with a
reception on Thursday evening, July 12th; Invited presentations, paper
sessions and poster sessions occur on Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14.
Preregistration for the conference will help us estimate size of the group
so if you can do so, we would appreciate it.

Some procedural things to note:
1. Rooms at the conference hotel are being held only through the middle of
June.
2. To save on postage costs, we have decided not to surface mail the program
this year. We will have hard copies at the conference.
