The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Educational Testing Service (ETS) is the nation's leading educational
assessment organization and a leader in educational research. We
develop and administer achievement, occupational, and admission tests
for clients in education, government, and business. We are committed
to continued personal growth for our employees.

The Research and Statistics Division at Educational Testing Service in
Princeton, New Jersey has a great opportunity for someone who wants a
challenging and rewarding position. The position will be with the
Natural Language Processing Group in the Center for Assessment Design
and Scoring.

The Center conducts research on the integration of psychometrics,
cognitive science and technology with the goal of enhancing the
scientific and societal value of assessments. The work for this
position involves the conceptualization and research of algorithms,
processes, or systems using natural language methods to assist in the
creation and analysis of test content (e.g., the automatic creation of
test questions and the automatic analysis of test questions to
characterize their difficulty). The work also involves the ability to
apply scientific, technical and software engineering skills in
designing and conducting natural language processing research studies
and in developing and contributing to the development of new products
or services for education.

The senior-level Research Scientist should have the following
qualifications: a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics
or highly related field. Evidence of independent substantive research
experience is required. The successful candidate is expected to
contribute to the application of natural language processing in the
development of educational assessment products in a multidisciplinary
environment. The supervision of a small number of staff may be
required.

ETS offers competitive salaries, outstanding benefits, two retirement
plans, 3 weeks vacation, generous relocation, a stimulating work
environment, and ample opportunity for professional growth. Please
send resume including salary requirements to Mike Smith at
mlsmith at ets.org or fax 609-4976-6022. Women and minorities encouraged
to apply. Assistance with US work authorization. ETS is an Equal
Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer.
