Subject: jeKai - Japanese word website

In May, 2000, translator Tom Gally proposed an Internet site as a
resource for Japanese words not included in bilingual (or
monolingual) dictionaries, or whose meanings require explanations
and in some cases pictures.

Today, the site jeKai at http://www.jekai.org hosts over 200 descriptive
entries. Japanese students and others who use Japanese may find the
site useful. (Please note that because of the focus on words not
given in dictionaries, there are several lexical items that some may
find objectionable.)

The range of entries includes botanical items, Japlish, technical
terms, cultural items and a rudimentary bilingual tree of life. It
also includes a search engine for people looking for specific
English (or Japanese) items.

For people who do not have a Japanese-ready browser, they can view
the pages fine using the graphic decoder at

http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/jviewer.html

Readers are encouraged to contribute.

Benjamin Barrett, jeKai contributor
