The Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta is pleased to accept
applications for its Master of Arts degree in Humanities Computing. The
programme integrates computational methods and theories with research
and teaching in the Humanities. The Faculty is committed to offering
its students opportunities to combine their interests in the Arts and
emerging computing technologies, particularly in the areas of
information management, multimedia, electronic publishing, and distance
education. The new M.A. in Humanities Computing will help form students
who not only understand, create, and manage multimedia and technological
projects, but also understand the critical and intellectual traditions
of Humanities scholarship.

To be most widely considered for funding, applications to the programme
should arrive no later than January 7, 2002, although we will continue
to review all applications after this date.

New Ph.D. Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University
of South Florida

Applications are now being accepted for advanced study in Hearing Science,
Language and Speech Science, or Neurocommunicative Sciences in the
Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of
South Florida (USF), located in Tampa, Florida. In addition, the Department
participates in interdisciplinary doctoral programs with the Department of
Psychology (Cognitive and Neural Sciences) and the College of Education. USF
is a Carnegie designated Doctoral/Research University-Extensive and is
classified as a Research I institution in the State of Florida.

This new Ph.D. program is structured to prepare individuals for successful
careers in research and teaching through specialized and interdisciplinary
academic preparation and mentoring by nationally known faculty. In May 2001
the department relocated to a state-of-the-art building with over 50,000
square feet of research laboratories, offices, clinics, and classroom space.
Nearly $1 million has been spent on new research and clinical equipment. The
Department maintains a full service community clinic that offers
comprehensive speech, language, and hearing services. In addition, the
location of the program in USF's interdisciplinary core provides easy access
to the medical campus and the natural and social sciences. Extensive
research opportunities, including access to multicultural populations, are
also available at the University's medical facilities, in the school systems
of the Tampa Bay region, as well as numerous community agencies and two
Veterans Administration Hospitals.
