AC2001 - The Thirteenth Amsterdam Colloquium - December 17-19, 2001

First Call for Papers

The Thirteenth Amsterdam Colloquium will be held from December 17-19,
2001 at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Colloquia aim at
bringing together linguists, logicians, philosophers and computer
scientists who share an interest in the formal study of semantics of
natural and formal languages. The spectrum of topics covered ranges
from descriptive (semantic analyses of all kinds of expressions) to
theoretical (logical and computational properties of semantic
theories, philosophical foundations).

The program of the Thirteenth Amsterdam Colloquium includes four
invited lectures by renowned experts in the field, as well as
contributed talks selected by an international program committee. The
invited speakers are:

Angelika Kratzer (Amherst)
Ruth Kempson (London)
Reinhard Blutner (Berlin)
Gennaro Chierchia (Milan)

Contributed talks will be scheduled in the general program or in one
of two thematic sessions: one on "Semantics and Cognitive Science"
and one on "Game Theory".

Submission of abstracts:
The Colloquium has room for approx. 32 contributed, 30 minute talks.
Authors may submit an anonymous abstract of two pages (at most 1000
words). The abstract must include a short 10 line summary clearly
indicating subject matter and  conclusions.

A separate leaflet should specify the author's name, affiliation,
postal address, e-mail address plus the title of the contribution.
Also it should indicate whether the abstracts is submitted for
presentation in the general program or in one of the thematic
sessions. Submission by e-mail is encouraged, provided that the
abstract, summary and personal details are in either postscript or pdf
format.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is September 1, 2001.
Authors will be notified of acceptance by October 15. Extended 6 page
abstracts, to be included in the proceedings, are due November 15.
The proceedings will be distributed at the conference.

Multiple submissions are allowed, but no single author will be allowed
to give more than one presentation. In case authors are involved in
more than one submission, one or more of which are co-authored, it
should be indicated clearly which author is actually going to give the
presentation.

Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) of the
Universiteit van Amsterdam.

***Announcement of New Journal and Second Call for Papers***
(deadline for submission: March 16, 2001)

The JOURNAL OF PORTUGUESE LINGUISTICS is a new journal concerned with all
branches of linguistics. It aims at publishing high-quality papers in the
field of Portuguese linguistics, including the comparison between any
varieties of Portuguese and any other language(s). Contributions are welcome
from linguists in all countries. The language of publication is English.
With the goal of being a platform for discussion in the field, the Journal
of Portuguese Linguistics welcomes papers, book reviews, dissertations
abstracts or letters to the editors in areas such as the European,
Brazilian, and African varieties of Portuguese, Portuguese-based Creole
languages, and language acquisition, variation, contact and change. The
broadening of the journal's scope is reflected by the composition of the
board of consulting editors.

The journal is sponsored by the Department of General and Romance
Linguistics of the Universidade de Lisboa and the Department of Linguistics
of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

We invite contributions to our first issue to be published in the Summer of
