The Institute for English as a Foreign Language Research and English
as a Foreign Language Teaching announces the following positions
beginning summer 2001:


1.

Applied Linguistics: TEFL/TESL Methodology and Intercultural
Communication at the University of Kassel, Kassel, Germany:
C2-professorship (6 years)
Number (please quote in application): 962

Applications are invited for a temporary full-time C2 -
lectureship/professorship (limited to 6 years) in Applied Linguistics:
TEFL/TESL Methodology at the Department of English and Romance
Languages of the University of Kassel, Germany, effective asap.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a field with
relevance to TEFL/TESL methodology and/or intercultural communication;
have experience in the field of ESL/EFL methodology (primary or
secondary schools) and undergraduate/graduate level; be prepared to
contribute positively to the development of the whole program.  The
successful candidate will have considerable experience in
second/foreign language research, in curriculum development and in
computer assisted foreign language learning. Candidates who are native
speakers of English are more than welcome. Yet a basic communicative
command of the German language is necessary.

The temporary professorship will involve teaching responsibilities (4
classes/8 hours per week) in the field designed above, examination
duties (written and oral), advising thesis projects, and additional
appropriate research activities. The successful candidate will also be
expected to cooperate as an editorial assistant for projects for
academic journals. Beyond these activities participation in
departmental responsibilities and activities, e.g. in the English
autonomous learning center or in the Kassel English Colloquia will be
required.

The candidate is expected to be prepared to contribute to the

The successful candidate will hold an MA in a field with relevance to
TEFL/TESL methodology and/or intercultural communication and will have
experience in the field of ESL/EFL methodology (primary or secondary
schools). The successful candidate will be computer competent and have
knowledge in such as computer statistics, the use of the internet and
email, html and multi media applications, data bank research and MS
Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). The candidate has knowledge
in second/foreign language research, and great commitment to working
in a team.  Candidates who are native speakers of English are more
than welcome. Yet a basic communicative command of the German language
is necessary.
