Howdy fellow linguists,

I need y'all's help again. I am teaching a college level course on
contrastive linguistics next year, and so I've been looking for a recent
textbook or some other introductory text on this topic. I didn't find
anything (contrastive linguistics doesn't seem to be in fashion right now),
but perhaps I missed something. If so, I'd be grateful for a hint.

Take care now,
Frank Oswalt

Dear fellow list members
In the early '70 (somewhere between 1972 and 1974) Theo Vennemann made a
somewhat contreversial remark (from the papers I read from that period, he made
more than one...). He wrote that "to extrinsicly order rules is lying about
language" or something to that effect. I was refered to different papers from Dr
Vennemann but did not find the incrimating quote. Would any of you have the
reference (and maybe the exact sentence itself)?

Thanks!
