Subject:  Looking for Material on Group Differences in Writing



We are currently engaged in a machine learning project looking for
characteristic authorship differences in written text. At this stage
we would like to investigate probabilistic allocation to groups (age,
gender and English language background, for example), but the
overwhelming bulk of existing research in this area appears to be on
speech rather than writing.

Can anyone from this list suggest similar work done specifically on
writing alone? Perhaps we are looking in the wrong places. The kind of
clue we are looking for is, e.g., missing definitive articles, use of
plural not singular verb forms etc., preference for passive voice over
active voice, etc.

Any suggestions are welcome.
