GLOW IN ASIA 2002

Colloquium Dates:  January 4-6, 2002

First Call for Papers

We are happy to announce that the third GLOW in Asia will be
hosted by National Tsing Hua University at Hsinchu, Taiwan.
We will follow the tradition of Hyderabad (India) and Nanzan
(Japan), seeking to promote generative linguistics in Asia, and
to facilitate the interaction between European, American and
Asian linguists. The colloquium will consist of approximately
20 talks of 45 minutes each, followed by 15 minutes of discussion.
Abstracts in all areas of theoretical linguistics are welcome.

Abstract Submission

Please send
(a)  10 copies of an anonymous two-page abstract, 1-inch
margins on all four sides, 12pt font,
(b)  a camera-ready original of the abstract with the author's
name and affiliation, and
(c)  a separate sheet indicating the title of the paper, and the
author's name, affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address,
telephone number and status (student or non-student)

Special Session on Afroasiatic Linguistics

The Berkeley Linguistics Society is pleased to announce a special session
on Afroasiatic Linguistics to be held in conjunction with the 32nd Annual
Conference on African Linguistics at the University of California,
Berkeley on March 22-25 2001.

We encourage submissions dealing with any aspect of the Afroasiatic
languages of Africa, including descriptive works on less well documented
languages, theoretical works on a specific language, and  historical and
comparative works on Afroasiatic and its various subgroupings with
particular emphasis on those groups which have received the least
attention.  We also encourage submissions from various theoretical
perspectives and works in any linguistic subfield (phonetics, morphology,
syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, etc.).

GUIDELINES

Papers presented at the conference will be published in the Society's
Proceedings, and authors who present papers agree to provide camera-ready
copy  (not to exceed 12 pages) by June 15, 2001. Presentations will be
allotted 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions.

Your abstract should be as specific as possible, including a statement of
your topic or problem, your approach, and your conclusions. Please send 10
copies of an anonymous one-page (8 1/2" x 11") abstract. Abstracts may be
at most four hundred words. The reverse side of the single page may be
used for data and references only. Along with the abstracts send a
3" x 5" card listing:

(1) paper title
(2) name(s) of author(s)
(3) affiliation(s) of author(s)
(4) address to which notification of acceptance or rejection should be
mailed (February 2001)
(5) contact phone number for each author
(6) e-mail address for each author
(7) subfield (Syntax, Phonology, etc.)

An author may submit at most one single and one joint abstract. In case of
joint authorship, one address should be designated for communication with
BLS.

Alternatively, we will accept abstracts submitted via e-mail. Only those
abstracts formatted as ASCII text,as a Microsoft Word (Mac version
strongly preferred) or a PDF file will be accepted. The text of the
message must contain the information requested in (1)-(8) above.
Electronic submissions may be sent to bls at socrates.berkeley.edu.

Abstracts must be received in our office (not postmarked) by 4:00 p.m.,
January 31, 2001. We cannot accept faxed abstracts.
