The Reading Matrix: An Online Journal
Call for Papers
for Volume 1, No. 1.
Deadline February 30, 2001
The Reading Matrix is seeking submissions of previously unpublished
manuscripts on any topic related to the area of literacy, reading issues
related to first and second language learners, and the application of
technology to literacy. Some areas of interest are:
· personal characteristics and attitudes of readers
· L1 and L2 learners' reading processes
· readers' responses to texts
· assessment/evaluation of reading
· reading and computer-assisted instruction
· vocabulary acquisition
· literacy and technology
We welcome both practical and research focused articles (including action
research). Articles should have a clear focus and be written so that they
are accessible to a broad audience of reading and language educators,
including those individuals who may not be familiar with the particular
subject matter addressed in the article.
Manuscripts are being solicited in the following categories:
Articles
Articles should report on original research or present an original framework
that links previous research, educational theory, and teaching practices.
Full-length articles should be no more than 6,000 words in length and should
include an abstract of no more than 200 words. We encourage articles that
take advantage of the electronic format by including hypermedia links to
multimedia material both within and outside the article.
Submission Guidelines for Articles
Please list the names, institutions, e-mail addresses, and if applicable,
World Wide Web addresses (URL(s)), of all authors. Also include a brief
biographical statement (maximum 50 words, in sentence format) for each
author.
Classroom Focus
Classroom Focus articles are reviewed in the same manner as main articles,
and should include an abstract of no more than 150-200 words. These articles
should describe a particular classroom practice in its cultural context.
Reviews
Reviews should offer a brief description and evaluation of professional
books, classroom texts, or technological resources (multimedia software,
CALL programs, video material, Web sites, etc.), Individual reviews should
generally be 600-900 words. Reviews should provide the following
information:
For book reviews:
Author(s) of the book, Title, Series (if applicable), Publisher, City and
Country, Year of Publication,
ISBN, Cost, Number of pages.
For software reviews: Name of product (previous names), Platform, Version
number, Minimal hardware, requirements, Support offered, Target (teaching)
language and audience, Language level of student / user (learners,
professionals), Cost (street or list, site license vs. individual).
Please include the following information with reviews: Name, institution,
e-mail address, World Wide Web URL of the reviewer(s) if applicable, and a
brief biographical statement of each reviewer (maximum 50 words).
Articles, Commentaries, and Reviews can be submitted in the following ways:
By electronic mail: send the main document and any accompanying files
(images, etc.) to editors at readingmatrix.com
(Macintosh users must submit their files with the .txt or .doc extension)
Contributors will be notified within 3-4 weeks. Website and Journal to be
launched March 30, 2001.

Papers will be selected based on their originality, significance, correctness,
and clarity of presentation. Extended abstract (4 pages) should be submitted

Special Sessions and Tutorials
Special sessions and tutorials will be organised at the
conference. The conference is calling for special sessions and
tutorial proposals. All proposals should be sent to the conference
chair on or before April 9th, 2001. CIMCA'2001 will also include a
special poster session devoted to recent work and work-in-progress.
Abstracts are solicited for this session. Abstracts (3 pages limit)
may be submitted up to 30 days before the conference date.
Invited Sessions
Keynote speakers from academia and industry will be addressing the main
issues of the conference.
Visits and social events
Sightseeing visits will be arranged for the delegates and guests. A
separate program will be arranged for companions during the
conference.
