The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Al-Imtiaz Foundation

Position: Chief Instructor

Department: Professional Development Institute

Mission: The Al-Imtiaz Foundation's mission is to fulfill the
fundamental need for quality education in Pakistan, with special
emphasis on providing equal opportunity to girls, fostering life-long
learning and leadership.

Background: AIF is located in Abbottabad, Pakistan, a mid-sized
metropolitan city in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.
Mrs. Nawaz invested her personal resources to rent a small bungalow in
her neighborhood to start the first school, the Al-Imtiaz Academy.
The school launched with only two teachers and twenty-seven students.
Starting with first grade, Mrs. Nawaz developed the curriculum and
added a new grade each year. At present the academy has 910 students
with a waiting list of more seeking admission. It runs from
Montessori to twelfth grade.

Job Description: Train primary school teachers (Montessori-Grade 4)
with two objectives:

English language development (TESOL, TEFL).

Improving current teaching methodologies to incorporate creativity and
thinking skills.

Implement needs assessment, design training program with tangible
goals, time lines, and evaluation methods, and prepare local Lead
Teachers who can train others in the future.

Qualifications: MA in ESL, Linguistics, Education or related field.
At least five years experience teaching and teacher training, some of
which should be at the elementary level. Looking for a dedicated
educationist who welcomes a challenge and adventure.

Compensation: 15,000 Rs./mo (high salary for local standards; this is
what our senior principal receives), living accommodations, local
transportation, and airfare provided. This is plenty for comfortable
living in Pakistan, but equates to little in dollars. For someone
coming from the US, this job is more like a Peace Corps position
without the bureaucracy.

Duration: At least a one-year commitment is desired. Start ASAP.

Application: Please send a resume, three references, and letter of
interest to Ayesha Nawaz at ayeshabano77 at yahoo.com.
