Lecturer
LINGUISTICS UNIT

The Linguistics Unit at UNSW has an established Coursework Master of
Arts program in Applied Linguistics and TESOL.

The Unit invites applications from individuals with expertise in two
or more of the following areas: language teaching methodology,
syllabus design, language testing and assessment, and second language
acquisition. The successful applicant will also be expected to
undertake supervision of research students and conduct research in
Applied Linguistics, and to contribute to teaching in the Unit's
undergraduate program in General Linguistics.

Essential criteria:

- a PhD or equivalent research degree (or a nearly completed PhD) in
Applied Linguistics or a related area;
- a significant record of achievement in research in an area of
Applied Linguistics;
- a record of high quality teaching in Applied Linguistics at tertiary
level and a capacity to undertake research supervision;
- a capacity to teach in the Unit's First Year General Linguistics
courses and willingness to teach in Faculty-wide courses;
- evidence of successful interaction with relevant professionals and
organisations as well as an ability to implement equity and diversity
policies and programs.

Desirable criteria:

- expertise to either contribute significantly to an existing
undergraduate course, or to design and deliver a new course in an area
of General Linguistics;
- an interest in innovative and flexible modes of course design and
delivery;
- recent experience of language classrooms.

The salary range for Lecturer is A$51,150 - A$60,742 per year
depending on qualifications and experience. The position is available
from July 2001.

Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a
condition of employment.
